Even though Spouse is still in the hospital, we are kicking our house hunt into full gear. It gives him something to do as a pleasant distraction, and it gives me something happy to focus on during downtimes at work. We’ve found some really awesome places in good locations that are well within our price range. I took care of the pre-qual earlier this week, and that went surprisingly well. Having never bought a house before, I am learning a lot!
Spouse continues to improve after 2 surgeries, lots of rest, great care, and physical therapy. He’s barely taken any pain medications, which means that I’m free to sneak in a beer for him occasionally. We feel like underaged college kids sneaking beer in and acting all clandestine about it. Whatever it takes to boost his spirits (har har) and make him feel somewhat normal. If all goes well, he comes home tomorrow and I can’t freaking wait.
It’s so nice to feel like I can actually make plans for the future. It will take some getting used to!
Yikes! Scary to hear Hospital and Spouse in the same line… Vespa accident worse than first thought?
Yep. We just thought it was bad case of road rash. It ended up being a 3rd degree burn that quite nearly burned to his Achilles tendon. In just 2 days’ time, he developed a nasty case of burn cellulitis, and his foot was swollen to twice its size. I finally forced him to see the doctor 2 days after the accident, and he was immediately sent to the hospital. They admitted him and kept him there for a little over 2 weeks.
He also had 2 surgeries while he was in: One to excise all the burned and infected tissue (of which there was a good bit), and then a second to do a skin graft over the site.
Despite how awful and scary it was, we feel so very lucky. He has recovered nicely, and is even going on short hikes again. The pain is manageable for him, and the only thing I have to do is clean and dress his ankle for him in the morning. If you ever need a burn care nurse, I’m your lady. 🙂
I am now officially living vicariously through the two of you. (At least, as regards the house hunt.) It’s fun to read how quickly your life is becoming teh awsum!
Glad I can be a ray of sunshine!
